For the "Various fairy tales" project, Timofey Smirnov crafted three works embodying a fusion of paintings and objects. These pieces share a common approach: the simplicity of graphite and colored pencil illustrations blends with an unconventional presentation mimicking the covers of fairy tale books, each designed by the artist.

This "unconventional" framing resonates with the essence of an "oxymoron," where seemingly contradictory elements form a cohesive expression or metaphor.
The book covers appear as if "etched" onto granite slabs, and the fairy tale titles engage in a whimsical dialogue with philosophical grandeur. Additionally, the artist satirizes the mass-produced and stylistically deficient design often found in Russian fairy tales, characterized by their extravagance and kitsch. On the covers of these crafted books, reminiscent of thick encyclopedias, no images are presented. Instead, the focal point is the book bookmarks, housing the entire visual narrative. Viewers are invited to interpret the interplay between the title and the image in their own unique and layered manner.
A fairy tale may be a lie, but within it lies a hint... This includes the form of bookmarks resembling photographic film and the fact that they are placed in the middle of an unread book. There are other (quite intricate) games as well. Even the fact that the "books" are actually "empty" inside can help understand the artist's intentions. Multiple meanings, coupled with the artist's inherent "visual irony," create an image that invites contemplation.
